Disinformation is the intentional dissemination of false, untrue and inconsistent information aimed at misleading the public. Its main purpose is to build an alternative picture of reality in order to create concern in the audience so as to induce them to make a wrong decision, form a certain opinion or take a certain action. The most common tools of disinformation are fake news, false comments, articles or fake websites slandering individuals or institutions. Disinformation has become a very serious and omnipresent problem in the age of modern technology.

With the development of social media and online platforms, spreading false information has become easier than ever before. One of the main consequences of disinformation is that it can negatively affect the level of public trust in institutions and undermine the public's confidence in facts and science. When people are exposed to conflicting news online, they may begin to doubt what they previously believed to be true or question whether expert opinion can be trusted. This can have serious consequences for public health, national security, international politics and much more. Another danger of disinformation is that it can serve as a tool for manipulating the public. False, manipulated narratives and fake news can negatively influence public opinion, thereby leading to serious conflicts in society.
