Embezzlement also known as malversation or misappropriation is a crime involving the usurpation of another's property, entrusted money or other property. The object of embezzlement, therefore, is property entrusted to the perpetrator by the entrustee, who expects the property to be returned to him or her undamaged and to be used for its intended purpose. Embezzlement usually involves persons of high social status, company managers, members of corporate bodies, officials who, taking advantage of their professional position or the privileges associated with it, commit embezzlement of funds for personal financial gain.

The best examples of embezzlement are collusion between subcontractors of services, covering private expenses with company money, or making purchases of fictitious goods and services. As a rule, embezzlement is divided into three types: misappropriation, false company balance sheet and corruption. Misappropriation means usurping someone else's property, assets or money. A false company balance sheet, on the other hand, refers to the intentional act of withholding information about financial resources and providing false information in a company's financial statements. Corruption, on the other hand, is a form of abusing one's position and position for personal financial gain. Worth emphasizing is that embezzlement under Polish law is a crime with severe criminal consequences including imprisonment.
