Legal protection for Whistleblowers

A whistleblower is a new entity that has appeared relatively recently in the Polish legal order as a result of the government draft law on the protection of whistleblowers made public by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy on October 18, 2021. The civic draft law on the protection of whistleblowers was also developed by: The Batory Foundation, the Institute of Public Affairs, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights joined by the "Anti-Corruption Academy" Foundation and the Watchdog Poland Civic Network.

European law has long guaranteed the protection of Whistleblowers through special resolutions adopted by the European Parliament on "the role of whistleblowers in the protection of EU financial interests (2016/2055(INI)) " of February 14, 2017, and "legitimate measures to protect whistleblowers acting in the public interest when disclosing confidential information held by companies and public authorities (2016/2224(INI))" of October 24, 2017. There are many examples of whistleblower protection legislation around the world in the Netherlands, Israel, the UK, South Africa, Australia, Japan, among others. In the United States, there is even a specially established institution for the protection of whistleblowers called - "National Whistleblower Center".
